A year ago today

A year ago today I was deliriously happy standing here on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy- handmade paper purchases in one hand, husband's hand in the other.

A year ago this week Michael took glorious photos of the Ponte Vecchio from the viewpoint of the Ufizzi museum.

Brunelleschi's Dome. We climbed the narrow stairway clear to the top at dusk. Certainly one of the world's most beautiful views....

One of those spectacular views... Firenze at dusk.

*sigh....* No matter the cost, it's best to live without regrets. Captured forever in my heart and memory, I'm so very glad we went...

Oh, yes! I've never been there, but we travel every chance we get. I've never regretted a penny we've spent on those trips!

Guiltily, given that for me it’s fairly local – well more local than for you – I have to admit I’ve never been to Florence! Venice, yes, Rome, yes, but never Florence.

But I totally agree that travel and memories are more important than a robust bank balance :)

I took my then 5 year old to Canada just after my mum passed away, spending pretty much all of my inheritance from her estate, which could have been put to much better use (my house needs SO much work doing to it!) – I even spent $800 on a Haida gold ring, which is unbelievably extravagant for someone permanently skint like me – but I knew it was the only way we would ever be able to afford the trip, and we both had an AMAZING time. The memories are more priceless than any re-tiled bathroom or re-plastered ceiling could ever be
